To me BBQ is a process through which people cook meat in furnace heat in restaurents and thats how we relish roasted meats..but when I am here in Taiwan ,the entire concept has changed..anything u want to celebrate ,lets have BBQ,well this time its moon festival,occasion is genuine.
As everybody does I was also expecting a fresher welcome party from our dept. in University. It turned out to be a BBQ again.varities of raw meat..as though the place has turned into a butcher shop..but the excitement under the sky glows with the charcoal fire...classmates in groups.gossiping around...my friend has reserved a seat for me..honoured and happy to sit there but unhappy to miss the girls group....tried to identify some new girls faces in that dim light...seniors,told my friend to me.I concentrated on cooking(better for me) and used some of my skills...people were impressed....it was usual for me.
Now the turn to eat..i was not sure whether it has been cooked properly but since i am a foreigner so have to taste it first ,but some how avoided it by saying ladies first...she confirmed that it has been cooked well..still not sure but tasted a little...it was amazing...there is a series of recipes ,JING TIAO,XIANG GU,CHOU DAO YU,TU SI......ah yummy!What can be better than pouring ice on roasted meat in stomach,ran to a Ice cream shop and had CHAO MEI,YING TAO flavor of ice creams.
Its moon festival so my chinese friend suggested me to have a look at moon today ,great i thought,will moon become sun today? No,i confirmed it is still moon but yes,it has got the power of sun and emitting the coolness and calmness as sun does opposite to us through its powerful rays.
They have modified the entire customs of this festival,modernisation is pervading over traditional culture.I admire the way they learn new customs from western culture and follow it with sheer dedication...but this also makes them more cultured and civilized...wish i could bring it to India.
